The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has fixed for hearing on September 14 a petition filed by Sher Afzal Marwat challenging the election of Sohail Afridi as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A bench comprising Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Aamer Farooq, and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi will hear the case.

It is pertinent to note that Sher Afzal Marwat, a Member of the National Assembly elected on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket, filed the petition, arguing that Sohail Afridi's nomination as Chief Minister was made by Imran Khan, the convicted former chairman of PTI.

In the petition challenging Sohail Afridi's election, the court has been requested to declare his election null and void and restore Ali Amin Gandapur as Chief Minister.

Legal experts believe that the upcoming hearing will carry significant political implications for the province, as it directly questions the leadership transition within the ruling party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
