The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges directed PIA to initiate disciplinary proceedings, in accordance with the relevant rules and law, against the cabin crew official over alleged misconduct. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi at Parliament House on Friday.
The Committee considered a Privilege Motion moved by Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan Mandokhail regarding alleged misconduct by a member of PIA's cabin crew during a flight from Quetta to Islamabad on February 7, 2026. It was recommended in the previous meeting that the relevant person tender an apology to the senator to resolve the matter. However, no one from PIA contacted the senator, prompting Senator Mandokhail to seek disciplinary action, including dismissal from service.
Expressing concern over the conduct of PIA staff, the Chairman informed the meeting of a social media report regarding the smuggling of cigarettes from Multan Airport. The Committee was of the view that such actions damage the reputation of the national flag carrier. The privilege motion was subsequently disposed of.
The Committee then considered a Privilege Motion moved by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri regarding alleged misconduct by Airport Security Force (ASF) officials deployed during check-in for Emirates Flight EK-601. Senator Zehri stated that while travelling to London, an ASF official checked her hand-carry bag and questioned her about the cash she was carrying. She offered to count the foreign currency at a side office, as required, but the ASF officer was mixing her bag with others. When she asked them to take her bag to a side room, the duty officer behaved inappropriately.
She questioned whether such an attitude was shown towards a parliamentarian, the treatment of ordinary citizens could also be a matter of grave concern. A senior ASF official expressed regret and tendered an apology for the incident, assuring the meeting that the matter would be taken up with relevant authorities and Pakistan Customs. The Committee recommended appropriate training for ASF personnel on dealing with the general public.
