Pakistan has made its first ambassadorial-level appointment to Armenia following the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025, with Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presenting his credentials to the Armenian president. Ambassador Khan presented his Letters of Credence to President Vahagn Khachaturyan during a ceremony held at the presidential palace in Yerevan, the Pakistan Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Friday.

Ambassador Khan concurrently serves as Pakistan's ambassador to the UAE and as non-resident Ambassador to Armenia. Pakistan and Armenia formally signed a joint communique establishing diplomatic relations in August last year. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, on August 31 last year, announced the signing of the Joint Communiqué establishing bilateral diplomatic relations.

At the time, DPM Dar said that he and his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan "reaffirmed our commitment to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, and agreed to work together to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields, including economy, education, culture, and tourism." Meanwhile, the Armenian president congratulated Ambassador Khan on his appointment, and conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure and the effective discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities.

President Khachaturyan expressed his readiness to support efforts to further develop Armenia-Pakistan relations and to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Ambassador Khan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to President Khachaturyan and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Armenia, with both sides underscoring significant potential for trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
